The Nsumba Children's Home- Uganda

The Nsumba Children's Home is an orphanage in Uganda. Father Gene Hattie is in charge of the home, and has overseen its advancement. What is most important for this school/orphanage is to ensure the quality of the infrastructure of the living quarters is high so that they are able to attract and retain good teachers and administrators.
In years past, Cornerstone has provided support for Father Hattie’s CALM children’s home which was also located in eastern Africa. Father Hattie is a Jesuit priest and a missionary who has lived and served the orphans in Uganda for over 30 years.

Maranatha Children's Home Orphange- Kiboga, Uganda

Maranatha Children's Home Orphanage is operated by Hearth to Hearth Ministries. Their mission is simply to help as many orphaned children as possible, through any means possible. The CYDF visited them as well on their trip this summer and found that their priority is to find sponsors for the children living there. Over 50 kids are living in this orphanage right now without sponsors, so they are unable to attend school. When you sponsor an orphan from Africa you help to make it possible for that orphan to have food, clothes, a home, and an education. It costs just $30 a month to sponsor a child. You can sponsor a widow's family for $50 a month. Please sponsor an orphan today.

The Mill Project- Birkina Faso, Africa

The village of Bombore is located in Burkina Faso, Africa. After seeing a need for a mill in the village, a family friend of Cornerstone’s named Ashley, who is currently there with the PeaceCorps, reached out to Cornerstone for help. Association Venegre Bloc Bombore is a newly formed, mixed-gender association whose mission is to fight against illiteracy of women, malnutrition in orphans and other vulnerable populations, and HIV/AIDS. They currently operate on funds through their members' dues which has not proven to be adequate in supporting their health outreach activities and literacy schools. While women traditionally grind their millet and other grains using two stones, mills are the new, most sought after, time-conserving, community-based appliance all women love. So much so, that they will often walk five kilometers with huge basins of grains on their heads to the nearest village with one, to wait in line for hours for that machine that turns kilos of whole grains into flour in just minutes. Ashley’s idea (in collaboration with the Association's President), was to purchase a mill for the village of Bombore village. All profits, after a small payment for the operator is taken out, are to help fund the literacy schools, nutrition and AIDs activities of the Association.
